Crowned Quietly

Hey Girlies,

If you’ve ever stared out of a moving matatu window, earbuds in, gospel or RnB, or whatever you listen to on blast, wondering what you’re doing with your life — you’re not alone.

Maybe you’re working a job you’re not sure you love. Maybe you’re chasing a dream that feels like it’s moving maddd slow. Maybe your auntie just asked you when you’re bringing someone home (again), and you laughed it off while secretly dodging your own feelings about love.

Here’s the thing: the story of Esther? It’s not just Bible content — it’s our story too. And it’s here to remind us that nothing about where you are is random. Even the confusion, the pressure, and the unexpected detours.

Esther was an orphaned Jewish girl, raised by her cousin Mordecai, living in exile. Not exactly your typical queen material, right?

Yet, when Queen Vashti was booted from the palace for refusing to be objectified (honestly, we love her boundaries), a kingdom-wide search for a new queen began. Esther was chosen. No royal connections. No special training. Just divine favour.

How many of us are in spaces we never expected? Imposter syndrome loud in our heads, telling us we don’t belong — yet somehow, we keep rising. That’s Esther energy.

Esther didn’t "look the part" — and maybe neither do you. But still, she was chosen. So are you.

When Esther learned about a decree to wipe out her people, she panicked. Rightfully so — approaching the king without an invitation was illegal and deadly.

But then came that line:

“And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

Whew. Read that again.

Because maybe your current job, side hustle, friend group, or online platform isn’t random. Maybe your heartbreak, your healing, your hesitation — it all counts. You’re here, in Nairobi, in your mid-twenties, hustling through deadlines and dating drama, for such a time as this.

You don’t have to have it all figured out to be in the right place.

Being a young woman in Kenya today is exhausting. You’re expected to be soft but strong, ambitious but humble, glowing but grounded. It’s vibes until you’re dodging boda guys in CBD with your tote bag, perverts trying to intentionally bump into you or touch you and trauma in tow.

And yet, you rise.

You launch businesses, serve your communities, stay generous, send Mpesa to your siblings, send memes to your friends when they’re down, and still show up to church on Sunday.

You are the modern-day Esther. Chosen. Positioned. Impactful.

Whether you’re in law or logistics, content creation or coding, single or situationship’d — you are not invisible. You are not unqualified. You are not too late.

You are here for such a time as this.

(For Ruth, with Love.)
